Unit Theme Day- Being Me

Today at the unit, we celebrated our “Being Me” theme day, and it was truly a joy to see. The children came dressed in ways that reflected who they are, from wearing their favourite colours to proudly showcasing beautiful African prints and other outfits that represented their individuality. It was wonderful to see such confidence and self-expression across the unit. During break time, all of the children took part in a dance session, which they are excited to continue working on and hope to perform at the end of the year. “Being Me” has certainly been a special day, and it has been lovely to see the happiness and pride the children showed in embracing who they are.
Moonbeam Libraray Visit
Moonbeam class enjoyed a visit to the Jubilee Wood library as part of their “Reading and Going Places” learning. As a non-verbal class, the children explored the library environment through sensory experiences, interacting with books, textures, and spaces in a calm and supportive setting. The visit provided a valuable opportunity for the children to practise new routines, develop confidence in a different environment, and engage with early reading in a meaningful and accessible way.
Rainbow Science Lesson
Rainbow class enjoyed a fun and engaging science session today, exploring light and shadows. The children used a tuff tray to build volcanoes and clouds, experimenting with how different shapes and objects create shadows. It was a hands-on activity that encouraged curiosity, creativity, and lots of excitement as they discovered how light changes what we see.
Starlight Class Writing Lessons
In Starlight Class, the children have been working incredibly hard in their writing lessons. They are supported from the very early stages, such as mark‑making and developing fine motor skills, through to forming letters and writing simple words. Staff carefully model writing and celebrate each step of progress, helping children to build confidence and enjoyment in expressing themselves through writing. It has been wonderful to see how proud the children are of their achievements as they continue to develop their skills.

Shooting Stars Co-operative Play

In Shooting Stars Class, the children have been working hard on developing cooperative play and turn‑taking skills through a range of shared play activities. Adults play alongside the children, carefully modelling play by demonstrating how to take turns, share resources, and communicate with peers. By joining in with the children, staff show positive social behaviours in a natural and supportive way, helping the children feel confident and included as they learn how to play together.

Turn‑taking is encouraged during games, small‑world play, and group activities, with adults supporting children to wait, watch, and respond appropriately. Taking turns with adults and peers helps children understand routines, build patience, and enjoy shared experiences. These playful interactions support communication, social understanding, and engagement, while making learning meaningful and fun. It has been lovely to see the children becoming more confident in playing together and celebrating each other’s turns.

Starlight Trip To Tring museum

The Starlight class had a truly wonderful day exploring Tring Natural History Museum as part of their current topic. The children engaged with a wide range of exhibits linked to animals, rainforests, and jungles, showing curiosity and interest in their own individual ways. Through facial expressions, body language, and choices, our children demonstrated great engagement as they explored new spaces, observed animals up close, and took in the sights and sounds around them.

The visit also offered valuable opportunities to develop confidence and life skills outside of the classroom, including following routines, exploring as part of a group, and enjoying time in a different environment. The children especially enjoyed having a picnic outside in the sunshine, which made the day even more special. Starlight class represented the school beautifully, and staff were incredibly proud of how well the children engaged, explored, and enjoyed such a positive and enriching experience.
